Dubsado vs HoneyBook for Home Stagers

A staging job is not one appointment, it's a chain: a bid request, a contract and deposit, the install itself, then a hire period that can run long enough to need an extension invoice before destaging. Here is how each CRM handles that chain, with pricing verified against both vendors.

Dubsado pricing last confirmed September 28, 2026. HoneyBook pricing last confirmed September 28, 2026 (cross-checked across multiple independent sources, direct fetch still returns HTTP 403).

Home staging bills differently from a single-session creative business: most stages go out on a fixed hire period, commonly four to six weeks, and if the property hasn't sold by then the stager needs a recurring extension invoice rather than a fresh one-off. A working staging and short-term rental design business that runs its own bookings on HoneyBook describes a twelve-step automation for exactly this: a bid-request form triggers task creation for the team, then proposal, contract and first payment, then a recurring invoice starting at day eighteen that keeps billing until the stage is picked up, then a destage email and a review request. The question that matters most here is which CRM can carry a bid all the way through that chain, including the extension billing, without you rebuilding the invoice by hand partway through.

Plan structureTwo plans: Starter, PremierThree plans: Starter, Essentials, Premium
Starting price$335/year (Starter)$36/mo (or $29/mo billed annually)

Bid-to-destage workflow automationAutomated workflows chain forms, contracts, invoices and to-do flags across 13 trigger types and 15 action types, but workflows are Premier-only; Starter has noneOne workflow per project, simpler to build than Dubsado's; a working staging business uses it to auto-generate team tasks (confirm a Realtor referral, assign a stager, draft a bid) straight from the incoming request form
Recurring extension invoice for a hire period that runs longA recurring invoice is a distinct object from a payment plan, set on its own weekly, monthly or custom interval with a start and end date; autopay enrollment is configured separately as required, optional or offRecurring invoices bill the same amount on a repeating cadence and carry autopay as part of the invoice type itself, which is how the working staging business above bills its day-eighteen extension fee automatically
Lead intake for two different services (vacant staging bid vs. occupied consultation)Lead capture forms: 1 active form on Starter, unlimited on Premier, so running both a vacant-bid form and an occupied-consultation form at once needs PremierSmart Files package a form, contract and invoice per project type and can be duplicated per service without a plan-tier form cap

Pricing and features verified directly against Dubsado's public pricing and help center pages on 2026-09-28. HoneyBook's own pricing page returned an HTTP 403 to automated fetching, so its figures are cross-checked against HoneyBook's own help center and independent third-party sources instead. Both vendors change plans and pricing periodically; confirm current numbers before buying.

Where they actually differ for a home stager

Both vendors gate real workflow automation behind a mid-tier plan, but the shape of the gate is different. Dubsado's automated workflows, the feature that would chain a bid form to a contract to a recurring invoice without you touching each step, don't exist at all on Starter; you need Premier at $525/year. HoneyBook includes one workflow per project on every tier, which is less powerful than Dubsado's full engine but is there from the entry plan, which matters if a staging business is watching cash flow before committing to a second tier.

The recurring extension invoice works on both, but HoneyBook bundles autopay into the invoice type itself. The working staging business cited above bills its day-eighteen hire-period extension as a recurring invoice with autopay already on, so a client who hasn't cancelled by then keeps getting charged without a new opt-in. Dubsado's recurring invoices reach the same billing outcome, but autopay is a separate setting you choose to require, offer as optional, or leave off per invoice, which is more control but one more decision to make correctly before the first extension goes out.

Running two distinct services, vacant staging bids and occupied-home consultations, hits Dubsado's form cap before it hits HoneyBook's. A staging business commonly runs both a vacant-property bid form and a separate occupied-consultation request form at the same time. Dubsado's Starter plan allows one active lead capture form, so a second service line forces Premier. HoneyBook's Smart Files aren't capped by plan tier the same way, so a second project type doesn't by itself force a tier change.

If you stage one property type with a fixed flat fee and no extensions, most of this gap closes. A stager who only does short flips with a single flat rate and no hire-period overrun doesn't need either vendor's recurring-invoice or multi-workflow features; either Starter plan covers a simple bid, contract, invoice sequence. The comparison above matters once a hire period can run past its term or you're running more than one service line at once, which is the common case for a staging business working with real estate agents on unpredictable sale timelines.
