A boudoir booking carries more first-time nerves and more sensitive intake questions than most photography niches, and often a bigger invoice split across a few payments. Here is how each CRM handles privacy, intake and payment plans, with pricing verified against both vendors.

Disclosure: ToolTable HQ may earn a commission if you sign up for a tool through a link on this page, at no extra cost to you. We only recommend tools we've researched from vendor documentation and real users' published accounts. See sources at the end of this page. We do not accept payment for placement, and we have not personally used either product to run a boudoir photography business.
Boudoir clients are disproportionately first-timers who are nervous about being photographed at all, so the questionnaire before the shoot has to ask about comfort level, areas they'd rather not emphasize and wardrobe sizing without feeling clinical, and everything downstream, the gallery, the invoice, the contract, needs to stay visibly private. Sessions also run higher than a typical portrait booking, often a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars, so a payment plan isn't a nice-to-have, it's most bookings. Working boudoir photographers who've built their business around Dubsado and HoneyBook describe exactly this: a client experience "that feels guided, organized, and aligned," built on automated intake and payment sequencing rather than manual follow-up. The CRM question that matters most here is which tool gets that sensitive-but-smooth intake and payment flow closest to right out of the box.
| Attribute | Dubsado | HoneyBook |
|---|---|---|
| Plan structure | Two plans: Starter, Premier | Three plans: Starter, Essentials, Premium |
| Starting price | $335/year (Starter) | $36/mo (or $29/mo billed annually) |
| Free trial | 21 days, no card required, full Premier-tier access, capped at 3 projects rather than by calendar time | 7 days (30 days via some promo landing pages) |
| Payment plans | You set the installment schedule (fixed or TBD due dates, equal/percentage/fixed splits); client can enroll in autopay for those installments once set | You can let the client choose their own payment schedule, or pay in full, rather than only enrolling in one you've already built Client-chosen option |
| Client portal privacy | Portal and individual forms can each be password-protected, set per client or per template | Portal is private to the client by default behind their login; portal and login screen are brandable |
| Sensitive intake & repeat-client memory | Custom fields plus question mapping: a comfort-level, wardrobe-sizing or areas-to-avoid answer on an intake form auto-populates the client's permanent record for their next booking | Smart fields link a questionnaire answer to that project's contract and invoice; built to reuse an answer within one project, not to carry it across a client's future bookings |
| Portal branding / custom domain | CNAME white-labeling maps the portal to your own domain, plus logo, banner and brand-color customization | Custom domain and a brandable login screen with colors, fonts and images |
| Mobile app | iOS 15+ and Android 10+, full app including appointment management and Tap to Pay for on-location deposits | iOS and Android, full-featured app |
Pricing and features verified directly against Dubsado's public pricing and help center pages on 2026-09-30. HoneyBook's own pricing page returned an HTTP 403 to automated fetching, so its figures are cross-checked against HoneyBook's own help center and independent third-party sources instead. Both vendors change plans and pricing periodically; confirm current numbers before buying.
HoneyBook lets the client pick their own payment plan, Dubsado has you build it and the client opts into autopay. For a first-time boudoir client weighing a few hundred dollars against a couple thousand, being able to choose "pay in full" or spread it over a few installments themselves, rather than accepting whatever schedule you set, can be the difference between booking and not. Dubsado's payment plans are just as capable, fixed or open due dates, equal or custom splits, autopay enrollment, but the schedule is yours to set first; the client doesn't reshape it.
Portal privacy is close to parity, and that's the point. Both tools keep a client's forms, gallery links, contract and invoice behind a private, individually accessible portal, Dubsado adds an explicit password layer you can require on the portal or on any individual form. For a niche where a client's biggest fear is often someone else seeing their booking, neither tool leaves that exposed, so this isn't a reason to choose one over the other, only a reason to check the privacy setting is actually turned on before your first booking.
Dubsado's custom fields carry a client's comfort and sizing notes forward, HoneyBook's smart fields don't reach past the project. A working boudoir photographer's account of setting up Dubsado describes mapping wardrobe sizing and shoot-day answers straight into the client's record from the intake questionnaire, so it's already there if she books an anniversary or confidence-building session again next year. HoneyBook's smart fields do the equivalent job inside a single project, pulling a questionnaire answer into that project's contract or invoice, but they're scoped to the project rather than the client. For a business with a real share of repeat clients, that's the difference between a one-time-only intake and one you never have to redo.
Both portals can be white-labeled to your own domain. Dubsado's CNAME mapping and HoneyBook's custom domain and brandable login screen both get a client to a page that looks like your business, not the CRM's, which matters for a boudoir brand built on a luxury, personal feel. Neither is a reason to pick one tool over the other; both are worth setting up before you send your first client a portal link.
