A pet photography booking rarely goes exactly as planned: a dog gets sick the morning of a shoot, a cat won't come out from under the bed, a client adds a second pet at the last minute. Here is how each CRM handles that, with pricing verified against both vendors.
Dubsado pricing last confirmed September 15, 2026. HoneyBook pricing last confirmed September 15, 2026 (cross-checked across multiple independent sources, direct fetch still returns HTTP 403).

Pet photography bookings are less predictable than most: sessions get pushed when a dog is limping or a cat is hiding, intake needs to capture a breed, temperament and any handling notes before you show up, and a growing share of bookings are multi-pet or add a second animal after the first inquiry. Working pet photographers who've set up Dubsado describe exactly this: workflows that are "rarely linear," with clients booking months ahead, needing extra reassurance, or rescheduling because of an unexpected pet incident. The CRM question that matters most here is whether the tool absorbs that unpredictability without you rebuilding the booking by hand every time.
| Attribute | Dubsado | HoneyBook |
|---|---|---|
| Plan structure | Two plans: Starter, Premier | Three plans: Starter, Essentials, Premium |
| Starting price | $335/year (Starter) | $36/mo (or $29/mo billed annually) |
| Free trial | 21 days, no card required, full Premier-tier access, capped at 3 projects rather than by calendar time | 7 days (30 days via some promo landing pages) |
| Client self-reschedule | One-click reschedule from the reminder email; toggle on or off per scheduler | One-click reschedule from the confirmation and reminder message; toggle on or off per session type |
| Pet-specific intake fields | Custom fields plus question mapping: a "breed" or "temperament notes" question on an intake form auto-populates the client's permanent record, so a repeat client's pet details carry into their next booking | Smart fields link a questionnaire answer to that project's contract and invoice; built to reuse an answer within one project, not to carry a persistent pet profile across a client's future bookings |
| Multi-pet / add-on package routing | Premier plan: branching Flows can trigger a different automation path based on a form answer, e.g. a single-dog portrait inquiry versus a multi-pet family session Branching | Automations exist but questionnaire/workflow branching logic is more limited than Dubsado's Flows |
| Mobile app | iOS 15+ and Android 10+, full app including appointment management and Tap to Pay for on-location deposits | iOS and Android, full-featured app |
| Invoicing & payment plans | Included on both plans | Included on all tiers; card processing 2.9%+$0.25, ACH 1.5% |
Pricing and features verified directly against Dubsado's public pricing and help center pages on 2026-09-15. HoneyBook's own pricing page returned an HTTP 403 to automated fetching, so its figures are cross-checked against HoneyBook's own help center and independent third-party sources instead. Both vendors change plans and pricing periodically; confirm current numbers before buying.
Rescheduling is a parity feature here, and that's the point. Both tools let a client reschedule themselves with one click from a reminder email, which matters more in this niche than in most: a limping dog or a spooked cat on shoot morning is routine, not exceptional. Neither tool makes you chase a client for a new time by hand, so this isn't a reason to pick one over the other, only a reason to make sure the toggle is turned on before your first booking.
Dubsado's custom fields carry a pet's profile forward, HoneyBook's smart fields don't reach past the project. A working pet photographer's account of setting up Dubsado describes mapping a dog's name and breed straight into the client's record from the intake questionnaire, so it's already there the next time that client books. HoneyBook's smart fields do the equivalent job inside a single project, pulling a questionnaire answer into that project's contract or invoice, but they're scoped to the project rather than the client. For a business built on repeat annual sessions with the same pets, that's a meaningful difference in how much re-entry you do by year three.
Dubsado's branching Flows fit multi-pet routing the same way they fit other package-based niches on this site. A client who books a single portrait session doesn't need the same automation path as one who adds a second dog and a family group shot. Dubsado's Premier-tier Flows can branch on that form answer; HoneyBook's automations, per independent comparison coverage, don't go as deep on conditional logic. If most of your bookings are single-pet, this matters less; if multi-pet and add-on packages are a real share of your revenue, it's worth testing in the trial before you commit.
Both mobile apps are now real, which wasn't true industry-wide as recently as this year. Pet sessions often happen on location, a park, a client's home, rather than in a studio, and Dubsado's app (relaunched in 2026, with Tap to Pay for on-location deposits) has closed the gap with HoneyBook's longer-standing app. Neither vendor's app is the deciding factor by itself anymore.
