A custom wedding cake order runs on a tasting, a quote with a dozen variable line items, and a deposit-plus-balance payment plan months apart. Here is how each tool handles that sequence, with pricing verified against both vendors.
Dubsado pricing last confirmed August 31, 2026. HoneyBook pricing last confirmed August 31, 2026 (cross-checked, see sources).

We do not accept payment for placement, and we have not personally used either product to run a cake business.
A cake decorator's inquiry starts with a tasting, moves to a quote built from tiers, flavors and sugar-work add-ons, and closes with a deposit now and a balance due the week of the wedding. Everything between the tasting and the final payment has to happen without a phone call, because the next inquiry is already in the queue.

Pricing and plan-gating verified directly against Dubsado's and HoneyBook's own documentation on 2026-08-31. Both vendors change plans and pricing periodically; confirm current numbers before buying.
Dubsado bundles the whole quote into one client-facing send at every tier. A cake order has more line items than most wedding-vendor quotes: tier count, flavor combinations, sugar flowers, delivery and setup. Sending the proposal, contract and invoice as one link keeps a client from losing track of what they agreed to, and it costs nothing extra since it is included on Dubsado's entry-level Starter plan.
HoneyBook's Smart File is a single document rather than a linked set. Instead of one email pointing to separate proposal, contract and invoice pieces, HoneyBook renders all of it as one scrollable page a client can read top to bottom without leaving it, which some decorators find reads cleaner on a phone during a tasting follow-up.
Both tools automate the deposit-then-balance payment plan a cake order needs. Dubsado's autopay and reminders are included on every paid tier. HoneyBook's version is more granular, with reminders scheduled at three separate points around the due date, but its scheduling tool for booking the tasting itself is held back from the Starter plan.
Tasting scheduling is where the tiers matter most. If booking tastings directly off a link matters as much as the payment plan, Dubsado includes that on Starter; matching it on HoneyBook means paying for Essentials, not Starter.
