A calligraphy business sells a visual craft: envelope addressing, place cards, welcome signs, and vow books, often for the same wedding booked months apart from the first inquiry. A client deciding whether to hire you is deciding partly from your past work, so how a tool shows that work inside a proposal, and how fast you can reuse a pricing package across the next ten inquiries during a busy season, matters more here than in a single flat-fee service.
| Attribute | Dubsado | HoneyBook |
|---|---|---|
| Plan structure | Two plans: Starter, Premier | Three plans: Starter, Essentials, Premium |
| Starting price | $335/year (Starter) | $36/mo (or $29/mo billed annually) |
| Free trial | 21 days, no card required, full Premier-tier access, capped at 3 projects rather than by calendar time | 7 days (30 days via some promo landing pages) |
| Work samples inside a proposal | Embed images directly into a public proposal page alongside pricing | Templates support custom imagery too, but you're customizing a fixed template rather than building the page freely |
| White-label branding | Remove Dubsado's own logo and apply custom CSS across forms, proposals and the client portal | Custom colors, fonts and imagery, but the HoneyBook name still appears on client-facing invoices |
| Package templates | Save a full package (envelope calligraphy, place cards, a welcome sign) once and reuse it for every inquiry | Also supports saved packages, with line items directly editable in place |
| Automated reminders and workflows | Included at every paid tier; chain follow-ups and reminders off a trigger, useful when inquiries spike ahead of wedding season Recurring | Available from the Essentials tier up; simpler to set up but not included on the entry-level Starter plan |
| Mobile app | Browser only, no native mobile app | Full-featured native app |
Pricing and features verified directly against Dubsado's public pricing page on 2026-08-26. HoneyBook's own pricing page returned an HTTP 403 to automated fetching, so its figures are cross-checked against independent third-party sources instead. See sources below. Both vendors change plans and pricing periodically; confirm current numbers before buying.
Dubsado's automated reminders are not tier-gated. A calligrapher who books out an entire wedding season in a few weeks needs reminders and follow-ups to fire without manual attention. Dubsado includes workflow automation on every paid plan; HoneyBook only unlocks it from Essentials up, meaning the $36/mo Starter tier does not include it.
Dubsado gives you a cleaner blank page for showing work. Because a Dubsado proposal is built from scratch rather than a fixed template, you can embed calligraphy or lettering samples exactly where they support a specific line item, then remove Dubsado's own branding entirely. HoneyBook's templates also carry custom imagery, but you're working inside a template's existing structure rather than a blank page, and the HoneyBook name stays visible on the invoice itself.
HoneyBook edits package pricing faster in place. If a bride adds an extra place card design or drops the welcome sign the week before the wedding, HoneyBook's line items are directly editable. Dubsado requires opening a dropdown and a separate edit step for the same change.
HoneyBook has the mobile app if you quote from a venue walkthrough. Calligraphers who scope place-card counts or welcome-sign sizing on site get a fully featured app from HoneyBook. Dubsado is browser only.
